Our Picks From The Frosty Mini Showcase 2025
Games from down under just hit different, and if you were one of the thousands who caught the Frosty Mini Showcase this month, you’d definitely agree! Here are our picks for games from Australia and New Zealand that really wowed us.
Bento Blocks
Catch us paying close attention to any game that has some Japanese flair! This is Bento Blocks, a cosy puzzle game revolving around the cutting of ingredients. In each level, you’ll be tasked to slice, arrange and perfect your lunch boxes based on the shape you’ve been given. Whether that’s squares of prawns, rectangles of rice or slightly more challenging shapes, this game is sure to tickle your brain as you figure out all manner of ways to achieve the shape you need in the least amount of slices possible. The art style is completely hand drawn and extreme soothing to look at. We can’t wait to savour Bento Blocks, which is releasing January 30th 2026.
Woodworm
We’re not sure how many worm-themed games there are floating around on Steam but it’s hilarious (in an amazing way) that there were more than one in the Frosty Mini Showcase. Woodworm in particular is a grid-based puzzle game about carving little wooden sculptures as a wood-eating grub. You do this by, well, eating away at sections of the wood and as the sculptures get more complicated, your woodcarving/eating prowess grows. It’s a cute casual game with simple yet adorable pixel art.
Drăculești
Fans of dark visual novels need to pay attention to this one. As the name might suggest, Drăculești is a romance horror game that reimagines the classic novel “Dracula”. In the game, you’ll play the role of a lawyer named Renfield, meet Dracula’s multiple brides, the man himself and ultimately decide if you’ll risk life for love with the beyond. Aside from a mysterious and sensual story, we’ve been most drawn to the gothic artstyle of the game. Not just the character portraits but the details in the background art and even some of the object art does so much to set the tone for this game.
Game Quest: The Backlog Battler
The joke really writes itself for this one. If you’re the type of gamer to buy up lots of games without every playing them, the developer of this game is directly calling you (and frankly speaking, most of us) out in a hilarious way. Because in The Backlog Battler, you play as yourself versus all of the games in your backlog that you’ve yet to pay. The more you paid for them, the more damage they will do to you, a quirky way to shame us for our most expensive purchases. Your battles will be spectated in a gladiator-esque arena, as your most played games watch you fight. Other games featured as your opponents include games you’ve played for less than two hours, games with a high Metacritic score and even DLC enemies. We’ll be watching nervously for this game to release in Q2 2026.
Key Fairy
You’ve never seen a game like this, nor one that combines so many unique elements. In Key Fairy, you step into a forest and utilise your best pacifist skills to collect shattered stars belonging to monsters beasts and gods that have fallen prey to fear and despair. Yes, you will be traversing in an almost dance-like manner and you take a no-combat approach throughout the entire game. We love how whimsical this looks and look forward to exploring this mysterious and mystical forest.
